- Annual Service, humidifier, HVAC
So, you already have a humidifier installed on your HVAC system, great! But when was the last time you gave your humidifier a good cleaning and changed the humidifier pad? It’s probably been a while, huh? Adding humidity to the air in your home can improve indoor air quality, make your home feel more comfortable, and preserve wood furnishings but, if you have mildew, mold, and bacteria in your humidifier, that added humidity isn’t helping your family at all.
Humidifier pads should be checked and replaced annually at the start of furnace season. This will not only maximize the performance of your humidifier, but also reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria in the home due to the dry air. In too little humidity, it’s difficult for the body’s air passages to properly fend off bacteria and viruses so our bodies are more susceptible to illness.
If not serviced annually, a humidifier pad can also become clogged with mineral deposits from hard water and restrict air flow through the panel and also decrease the amount of moisture your humidifier can add to your indoor air. After the cold season ends and the humidifier is no longer in use, residual water that remains in the humidifier and pad becomes stagnant and can develop mold or bacteria that will disperse throughout your home.
Annual humidifier service should be done before you turn on your furnace at the start of the heating season. It will not only ensure that your humidifier is working properly, but also that nothing harmful from the humidifier will be put into the air your family breathes.
